WHITECHAPEL GALLERY REBRAND

Whitechapel Gallery in East London is celebrating its 125th anniversary and wanted a fresh rebrand to mark the occasion. BBH Studios crafted a visual identity that feels unapologetically alive - raw, bold, and rooted in East London’s grit and community energy. We leaned into expression, combining heritage type, electric colour, and community-made handwritten marks to create a system that celebrates the Gallery’s radical history while pointing confidently to what comes next.

I developed the motion language to reflect what art is at its core: human, handmade, and tactile. Using a low frame rate of 15fps, the motion has a DIY, stop-motion edge full of warmth and charm. Subtle animated paper textures across selected elements and backgrounds enhance the crafted, tactile feel, while tiny micro-shakes and random movements, especially in the type, mimic camera drift and embrace the quirks of stop motion.
